HYDRATION ANALYSIS
What is it?
Hydration analysis is used to determine an individual’s body fluid balance i.e. are you in a hydrated or dehydrated state.
Why is it important?
It is important to maintain regular fluid balance before, during and after exercise to promote optimal performance and adequate recovery. Pre- and post-performance hydration analysis can be extremely beneficial in:
-
Creating a hydration strategy around training and competition
-
Reducing risk of injury
-
Preventing dehydration which can negatively impact physical and cognitive performance by:
-
Increasing the strain on the cardiovascular system
-
Increasing the breakdown of energy in the muscles during exercise
-
Increasing the risk of nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting and gastrointestinal problems
-
Reducing the time to exhaustion
-
Reducing exercise tolerance time and drive to exercise in the heat
-
What it involves?
Hydration status is measured from a urine sample or body weight changes before, during or after exercise.
