CALCIUM AND VITAMIN D BLOOD TESTS

What is it?

Testing for deficiencies in calcium and/or vitamin D.

Why is it important?

High levels of training can be very demanding on the bones, muscles and energy availability of the human body. Vitamin D and calcium can positively influence these risk factors.

Calcium is positively associated with:

  • Reduced risk of injury

  • Absorption of important vitamins and minerals

  • Energy availability due to normal metabolic functioning

Vitamin D plays an important role in:

  • The normal absorption of calcium and therefore bone health

  • Muscle function including repair and remodelling

  • Aiding recovery and muscle pain after exercise

  • Reducing risk of injury (inflammation and stress fracture injuries)

  • Reducing the risk of illness and infection
